Olympia tent roof history
The Olympic tent roof consists of an innovative steel construction and Plexiglas panels. Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), abbreviated as acrylic glass or Plexiglas, is a synthetic, glass-like thermoplastic material.
Acrylic glass was developed at the same time in Germany, Great Britain and Spain from 1928 onwards and was ready for the market in the year 1933. Acryl glass is produced in large quantities today and it is impossible to imagine modern life without it.
Plexiglas is used in many ways as a shatterproof and yet light glass substitute (e.g. plastic glasses). |
