Gerona - Girona
The ocher-colored houses are reflected in the sluggish waters of the river Onyar (more cloaca than river). Particularly worth seeing in Girona's old town is the cathedral, a mixture of various eras and styles. The clock tower and the cloister are Romanesque and date from the 12th century. The staircase and the facade are Baroque, the Gothic nave was built in the 17th century.
Figueres, Dali Museum
The town Figueres in the Province of Girona is the birthplace of the famous surrealist painter: Salvador Dalí.
The Persistence of Memory (La persistencia de la memoria), also called the fading time or the soft watches, is the most famous painting of the surrealist painter Salvador Dalí from the year 1931.
The only 24 × 33 centimeters in size oil painting shows four deliquescent pocket watches, which are painted in the Catalan countryside in front of the rugged cliffs of the Cap de Creus. On a clock sits a fly that is meant to symbolize how the Time passes by. Another is eaten by ants, symbolic of transience and decay. In the middle of the picture a clock melts away on a shown in profile, abstracted face of the artist, a motive, as Dalí had been two years previously used in his work The Great Masturbator.
Besalú
The Romanesque bridge from the 12th century crosses the river Fluvia in Besalú.
Begur
The Catalan province Begur with its rugged coastline and the many small coves belongs to the most scenic areas of the Costa Brava. The town of Begur lies in the shadow of a powerful, visible from far away castle. Beautiful beaches around Begur are Sa Riera, Illa Roja, El Raco, Aiguablava, Fornells, Platja Fonda, Sa Tuna and Aiguafreda.
Pals and Peratallada
